Family days on the Algarve coast

Short boat rides, dolphins, a cliff-top walk and a long lunch: days that fit small legs and nap times, with a private boat when you want the deck to yourselves.

Questions people ask

Which trips have a minimum age?

Some do. The guided Benagil kayak tour we list is for ages 11+, and coasteering for ages 13+. Boat trips set their own rules for babies and toddlers; we check them for your date when you send the ages in the request.

Is a private boat worth it for a family?

Often, from about five people up. In Lagos, a private two-hour trip along the Ponta da Piedade coast is €300 for the boat; the same company’s shared grottoes trip is €23 per adult. With a private boat you leave when the children are ready, and turn back when they have had enough.

What if it rains?

Rain is rare from May to September and comes mostly from November to February (IPMA, Faro, 1991 to 2020). On a wet day a cooking class or a castle visit in Silves works well; ask in the request and we suggest a dry plan.

Do I pay you or the operator?

The operator. Asking is free; you confirm and pay the people who run the day.

Tell us the ages and the dates.

We suggest days that fit, and ask the operators what is free.
